Biography
The Cosmic Ceilidh Band are out of this world, off their planet and just what any wedding, function or event needs. They formed from a gaseous cloud earlier this millennium and since then have filled dance floors large and small, from North Wales to Glencoe.
They play a lively repertoire of Scottish, Irish and bluegrass music, and it won't be long before you hear classical, reggae and funk grooves in many of their sets. Easily Scotland's most innovative ceilidh band.
Their great sound is enhanced by their top of the range Mackie PA system which is suitable for even the largest of halls.
The Band
Frontman Roddy Neilson (Fiddle) is about as home-grown and steeped in traditional music as you can get. He has seen the limelight in bands such as the 'Peatbog Faeries' and 'Blueflint'. He also doubles up as our caller and brings humour and clarity to the most complex ceilidh dance.
Kenny Vass (Guitar) is a fine Edinburgh singer songwriter, who recently recorded his debut solo album Travellers Way. His warm personality never fails to exude from his music.
Bootsy Ballentyne as he is affectionately known is the only Bass player in a ceilidh band who can pull off the tune 'Star of the County Down' using slap. If you've ever heard of a band called 'Ozric Tentacles' then you'll know Bootsy's taste in music.
Mo Hunter started playing the clarsach (harp) from an early age and grew up with music over spilling from her Dad's recording studio. Some of her harps have been as far abroad as the Faroe Isles, Arizona and Ardnamurchan point.
